"The Everafter War"
The Pied Piper of Hamlin is known for using his music to rid a town of rats after being promised money in return for his services. After the town was rid of the rats, the townspeople refused to pay him. The Piper warned them that if they did not pay him they would not like the tune he next played, but they did not listen. With his pipes, the Piper entranced the children of the town and led them away. They were never heard from again.
He used the students to tunnel under the school so that Rumpelstiltskin, who was a counselor at the school named Mr. Sheepshank, could blow up the barrier with energy he had gained from the students' emotions. Mr. Hamlin starts having second thoughts about the escape plan when people start getting hurt. Wendell is put in danger, which leads Mr. Hamlin to assist the Grimms with stopping Rumpelstiltskin.
At one point, he believes Wendell to be dead. When it is discovered that he was only unconscious, Mr. Hamlin kisses Snow White in his joy.
The Piper is a tall, dark-haired man with a ruddy complexion and a long, lean face that makes his crooked nose look enormous. He has big, bushy eyebrows that bounce around his forehead "like excited caterpillars" when he's upset.
