Frau Pfefferkuchenhaus was the witch in the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel who lived in a house of candy. She was an Everafter who lived in Ferryport Landing and opposed the Scarlet Hand.
Biography[]
In Hansel and Gretel, Frau Pfefferkuchenhaus was claimed to be a crazy cannibal. Frau, however, says that "you can't believe everything you read" and claims that she was framed by the children for being a cannibal when actually, she was just giving the kids a scare and they thought the food Pfefferkuchenhaus tried to give them as some sort of cannibalist meal (it was a salad). "The only thing bigger than their waistbands," Frau retorted, "were their imaginations."
In Ferryport Landing, Frau led a successful life as a dentist. The career is ironic because in her fairy tale she lived in a house of candy. Pfefferkuchenhaus had no education in dentistry whatsoever and thus she used a lot of laughing gas on her patients.
In Magic and Other Misdemeanors, Frau had her vial from the Fountain of Youth stolen, making her a moderately important character in that book. Unfortunately, due to the Scarlet Hand, Pfefferkuchenhaus died in action in Camp Charming's first battle in book 7; she was one of the earliest casualties.
Etymology[]
Pfefferkuchenhaus is the German translation of 'Gingerbread House'.
