Rip Van Winkle is the protagonist of his fairy tale of the same name, and a resident of Ferryport Landing.
The Problem Child[]
In "The Problem Child," Rip owns a taxi service, and due to the fact that the Grimms' car is essentially un-drive worthy, Relda, Sabrina, Daphne, and Elvis all took his taxi to get to the new elementary school. Unfortunately, Rip fell asleep while driving on the way there several times, nearly crashing the vehicle.

Rip is the titular character in the fairy tale "Rip van Winkle," which was written by Washington Irving, the author of "The legend of Sleepy Hollow." In Rip's tale, he falls asleep for twenty years, only to wake up and not recognize anyone or anything.
